【Abstract】

Carbohydrates, in addition to providing energy, are also closely related to our daily lives and health. This lecture will first introduce, in a popular science approach, the structures and roles of natural monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. It will then elaborate on the development of modern glycomedicine, including how synthetic complex glycans on cell surfaces can be used as tools for early disease diagnosis, as well as discussions on their applications in the prevention and treatment of cancer and infectious diseases.
