【Abstract】
Due to their high energy density, lithium metal batteries can be used to develop energy storage systems for a wide range of applications. However, the mechanisms of lithium metal deposition and dissolution, including nucleation, growth, dendrite formation, deactivated metal phase formation, interfacial reactions, and interfacial layer formation, vary significantly depending on the electrolyte. Precisely controlling the deposition and dissolution of lithium metal in various lithium metal batteries remains a key challenge in realizing high-performance anode-free lithium metal batteries (AFLMBs).
In this talk, I will introduce the fundamental mechanisms of lithium metal deposition and stripping, as well as the interfacial reactions between lithium metal and electrolytes. These studies will include both liquid and solid electrolyte systems, employing advanced in-situ spectroscopic and imaging techniques. Based on the mechanistic insights gained, I will also discuss strategies for improving the performance of lithium metal-based energy storage systems.
